Building Newark’s College-Going Culture
All young people and their families, regardless of where they live or what school they attend, should have the information, resources, and quality education needed to enable success in college or another post-high school option. NCLC works with partners to expand the college-going culture in three key ways.
Public Awareness and Community Mobilization
- Broad engagement of the Newark community around building a college-going culture
- Raising awareness about the significance of having a post-secondary credential
- Bringing resources to residents where they live through neighborhood-based information sessions
Pre-College Pathways
- Supporting students in the College Pathway Initiative through high school graduation, the transition to college, and ultimately college completion
- Expanding access to dual enrollment and other rigorous coursework options
- Creating seamless pathways for Newark students to transition from high school to college
Persistence and Completion Outcomes
- Galvanizing higher education to identify and address barriers faced by low-income, first generation students
